Alain Badiou believes that in history there are events, which are like windows in space and time in which opportunities for transformation appear. Events arise accidentally and if they are taken advantage of, they radically change a culture. Schifter views the 1948 civil war as a transformative event, but its origins and motivations had nothing to do with the consequences. This thesis breaks with everything that has been written about the history and democracy of this country. Nobody was looking for ethical democracy and wanted it. Its form of emergence affects all our current politics. The crisis that the country is experiencing today is a product of the democracy that nobody wanted.
