It is the first joint publication made by the researchers of the Latin American Network for Medieval Studies. The texts that compose it are the product of the first working meeting of the Network, held in October 2016 in the city of Heredia. Three thematic axes structure the work: The conjuncture between Antiquity and the Middle Ages, seen in a multidisciplinary perspective; the dynamics of power relations in the Christian Middle Ages, and the current character and direction of medieval Latin American studies.
The authors, members of eleven universities and research centers from five Latin American countries, present their intellectual concerns, their experiences as teachers and researchers of medieval themes in their respective countries, and discuss the relevance and importance of investigating the Middle Ages in the Latin American context. With this, they make this work a very important testimony of what it means to make medieval history in Latin America, taking into account both the difficulties and shortcomings and the advantages that working from an eccentric position implies.
