In Costa Rica there are 10,000 and 12,000 plant species. These are a source of agribusiness, chemical industry, veterinary products and pesticides. Plants produce around 30,000 secondary metabolites for their defense. Organic pesticides are also used for veterinary and human drugs. Costa Rica has 360 proven pesticide plants. The natural forest is the habitat of edible, medicinal and vegetarian insects. Entomophagy is the consumption of insects by humans and is considered the “protein source of the future”. Acridophagia is the intake of grasshoppers that are obtained from the forest and is conceived as “from plague to plate”. However, they will be our future food. Let's protect the forests! Scientific research on medicinal plants has a very high economic cost. From speculative research, that known to the people, developed countries carry out the study of chemical analysis with risky results and at a high cost. For the above reasons, we seek out published scientific research for reference in our editions.
Second edition of "The usefulness of medicinal plants in Costa Rica", increased and updated.
